Shoulder in

Shoulder-in is a more advanced lateral movement where the horse travels forward along the track with its body bent around the rider’s inside leg. The horse’s inside foreleg passes and crosses in front of the outside foreleg. The ideal shoulder-in has the horse's inside hind leg stepping directly forward under the horse’s body. This movement develops suppleness, balance, and engagement of the hindquarters. It requires the horse to bend through its body along the line of travel with the forehand slightly inward and the hindquarters on the track.
